About the Movie
Two crew members of the colony ship Elysium wake from hypersleep with no memory of their mission, a failing reactor, and something moving in the dark corridors. Corporal Bower (Ben Foster) crawls through the ship toward the reactor while Lieutenant Payton (Dennis Quaid) guides him by radio — and the truth about the 60,000 souls aboard is worse than either of them imagines.
Directed by Christian Alvart and produced by Paul W.S. Anderson, Pandorum (2009) is a claustrophobic deep-space horror-thriller named for the madness that takes crews on long voyages. Cam Gigandet and Antje Traue co-star in a film whose final twist reframes everything before it.
Why This Movie Matters to Sci-Fi
Pandorum flopped on release and then refused to die — word of mouth turned it into one of the most recommended sleeper-ship films of its generation. Its blend of generation-ship stakes, evolutionary horror and a genuinely earned ending showed how much original sci-fi could still do on a modest budget, and fans still campaign for the sequels it set up.
